Join us on 1 September 2026 at 10:00 CEST for a joint "Light Rail Day" webinar featuring two perspectives on Turku’s new tramway project. Lauri Räty, Design Manager at Turku Tramway Ltd., will present the background, objectives, and strategic rationale behind the planned 12-kilometre tramway. He will explain the key design principles and technical solutions selected during detailed design and show how infrastructure, urban integration and operational requirements have guided the project. Lauri will also discuss the 2026 decision-making process, the milestones determining the next phase, and how construction and vehicle procurement will progress towards the planned launch of services in autumn 2033.

Taina Haapamäki, Founder and Managing Director of FLOU Oy, will complement this project perspective by presenting the carbon handprint study carried out to support decision-making on the Turku Tramway project and funded by the European Investment Bank. She will introduce the carbon handprint methodology and explain how it was applied to assess the tramway’s climate impact across the built environment, vehicle manufacturing and traffic operations. Taina will also highlight the key assumptions behind the results and discuss how carbon handprint analysis can provide a broader framework for demonstrating the climate benefits of major infrastructure investments—not only in Turku, but for similar projects elsewhere.
