Program

Wednesday - 30 June 2027 - Tram Line T9

Meeting point: 1:30 PM at Gare du Nord / Magenta RER, Paris.

Visit to tram line T9, led by expert guide Stephan Besier. We will observe current trends in Paris tram systems. The 10 kms long tram line T9 was opened in 2021 and was the first to feature the “tram lumière” design, which incorporates a lot of light effects, inside and outside the vehicle. It serves the southeastern parts of the greater Paris area and replaced an overcrowded bus line.

Thursday, July 1, 2027 – Visit of the Cable Car C1

We begin the day by traveling to the cable car’s starting point, where we will first attend
presentations on the system by Stephan Besier and local partners in a conference room.
Throughout the day, we will gather extensive information about the cable car: the decision-making criteria for this mode of transport, the route, construction time and costs, and passenger ridership trends, as well as a broader perspective on potential alternatives and public opposition. Naturally, we will also ride the cable car and experience it firsthand. This eventful day will conclude at a Restaurant, which is renowned for its excellent cuisine.

Friday, July 2, 2027 – Tram Line T10

Tram line 10 is one of the newest tram lines in the „Ile de France“. The 8 kms long line entered service in the year of 2023 and serves the southwestern parts of the Paris area. Like on T9, it also features the “tram lumière” vehicle, an Alstom Citadis 405, which is 45 m long. An extension of 3 km is planned at the northern end of the line. The return trip will make use if the RER B line which serves Gare du Nord and Gare de l´Est and also ends at the Charles de Gaulle Airport. We will arrive at the “;Gare du Nord” station around 3 p.m. From there, at the latest, onward journeys or trips home can be started.

Following the conclusion of the study trip on Friday, members of www.nlra.net can continue on to the Tram Driver World Championship. This is a separate NLRA study trip.
